Since 2000, The University of Alabama at Birmingham Center for Palliative and Supportive Care has confronted serious illness with compassion. The results have been extraordinary. Our comprehensive team helps patients and families achieve the best quality of life possible. We anticipate, prevent, and treat pain and other symptoms. We train physicians, nurses, and other caregivers who will provide care in the future and in other places. We discover new and better ways to support patients and families and to improve their quality of life.
Now we aspire to lead the nation in this revolutionary care model, through research, outreach, and education. Recognizing our proven track record of innovation and an undeniable wealth of experience, we have raised the bar higher still by creating a prestigious home for research and education programs that advance new insights in response to patients’ and families’ needs: The Southeast Institute for Innovation in Palliative and Supportive Care.
Our mission is to serve as the leading regional resource center for the discovery, dissemination, education and sharing of palliative and supportive care principles and practice in the Southeast US.
