Corey grew up in Midfield, AL where he graduated from Midfield High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and earned the rank of Sergeant while serving as an artillery battery section chief. He later attended UAB where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice/Communication Management. Corey pursued graduate theological education at the George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University and received his Master of Divinity in 2003.
After serving as the pastor of a Baptist church in Houston, TX, for nine years, Corey returned to Birmingham to complete both a clinical pastoral education internship and residency at UAB from 2013-2014. He briefly worked as Chaplain/Bereavement Manager at Vitas Innovative Hospice before returning to UAB as a staff chaplain in 2015. A licensed and ordained minister, Corey received his ecclesiastical endorsement from the Baptist General Convention of Texas in 2014. Corey has served as the Palliative and Comfort Care Unit chaplain since 2015. His goal is to provide quality spiritual care that allows families and staff to feel loved and supported.
Corey and his wife, Jenny, married in 2017 and currently reside in Hayden, AL. Together they work to run a nonprofit that Jenny formed in 2011, Our Hope International, that functions as the official stateside partner for Home of Hope, an orphanage for children with multiple disabilities in Jinja, Uganda. On weekends, they enjoy motorcycle day-trips and kayaking on their neighborhood lake.
