Gastric biopsy in an 80-year-old female.
What is the best diagnosis?
- H. pylori gastritis
- Autoimmune gastritis
- Iron-pill gastritis
- Doxycycline-associated gastritis
Answer: This biopsy shows eosinophilic necrosis of the superficial capillaries and capillary microthrombi. These histologic features are characteristically described with doxycycline-related gastric mucosal injury. H. pylori immunostain was negative.
