Mission

The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC) is an organized body that aims to represent and promote faculty members' interests to foster academic and clinical development. It pursues its mission by functioning as an advisor/consultant to the Chair and Division Directors for problems related to faculty activity.

Structure

The FAC is comprised of six to eight members representing every division in the Department of Pathology. The Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Chair of the FAC coordinates with division directors to nominate and select members from each division, who normally serve a 2-year term. The Chair for FAC will serve a two-year term.

Activities & Responsibilities

• FAC meets quarterly to coordinate council activities and discuss new business
• FAC provides information about departmental research and clinical strength to upcoming and newly hired faculty
• FAC surveys faculty for ideas to improve departmental academic and clinical activities and processes, organizing prioritization improvement proposals
• FAC advises the Chair and Division Directors on problems and concerns that require attention, recommending optimal solutions for their resolution
• FAC advocates new ideas and projects proposed by faculty to the Chair and helps coordinate implementation

New Initatives

• FAC will provide regular (e.g., quarterly) reports and/or feedback to the Chair, Vice Chair for Research, Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs, and Vice Chair for Education.
• FAC will work with the Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs in maintaining up-to-date websites (with assistance from the departmental communications team) on various topics, e.g., mentoring resources
• FAC will meet with faculty candidates and/or new hires and inform them about departmental strengths in areas of research and clinical expertise and resources
• FAC will rotate member participation at PLC meetings and departmental faculty meetings
• The FAC will compile and distribute proposals, gather feedback, delineate majority interests, present them to the Chair, and coordinate implementation
• FAC will actively engage with faculty, encouraging them to contact their FAC division representative with concerns, suggestions, and proposals

Accomplished Past Projects

• FAC established quarterly Open Office Hour on Zoom
• FAC assisted in establishing a departmental newsletter
• FAC instituted a faculty seed grant award
• FAC promoted mentoring activities among faculty and trainees
