The vision of the National MS Society created CPODD in 2006. We continue to collaborate with the Society in research efforts, to enhance clinical care, and to provide resources for families.

CPODD is one of the founding Clinical Centers in this Network. The NPMSC mission is to uncover the key pathogenic mechanisms underlying pediatric demyelinating diseases.

CPODD Family Retreat, our annual family educational and recreational event for patients with MS and NMO, is held every year at the Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin. Its use is generously donated by this organization.

The UAB Multiple Sclerosis Center is housed in the Division of Neuroimmunology, UAB Department of Neurology. Directed by Khurram Bashir, MD, MPH, the UAB MS Center evaluates and treats acute and chronic MS and related diseases in adults. Local CPODD patients make a natural transition to this Center as they transition into adulthood.
