The General Surgery Residency Program Fund provides vital discretionary resources to ensure our residents are provided the most meaningful and immersive educational experience possible. Gifts to the fund support the residency program’s greatest needs and emerging priorities, and provide necessary tools such as surgical loupes, reference materials, and simulation events.

About Marshall Urist, M.D.
Dr. Urist was recruited to UAB in 1981 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Surgery, and led the Section of Surgical Oncology from 1985 until 2007. Dr. Urist also served as the Director of the General Surgery Residency Program from 1991 to 2012. Throughout his career, Dr. Urist has had the distinct privilege and responsibility of preparing our residents to serve as the next generation of surgical leaders in Alabama and across the country.
Membership Benefits
We invite all alumni and friends to become a member of the Marshall M. Urist General Surgery Residency Society. Gifts are cumulative throughout one's lifetime, and estate gifts are welcome. Once a person's cumulative giving reaches $50,000, he/she becomes a Lifetime Member.
