Department of Surgery Program Coordinator II Kaycee Hair was nominated as a 2022 Mental Health Champion for her role in the department.

The award program is an annual tradition of the UAB Student Counseling Services Student Advisory Board, designed to honor individuals like Hair who go above and beyond in support of mental health on campus and in the community. 

In 2021, Hair was named Staff Wellness Champion for the department. Since then, she has served alongside Chief Wellness Officer Brenessa Lindeman, M.D, MEHP, FACS, to support the department as it works to meet the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of all staff.

For the month of February, Hair and Lindeman created a Wellness Calendar Challenge, encourage self-care across the department. It had high participation and seemed to boost the morale of the office.

“Everyone was very excited to complete their self-care days,” said Hair. “It was a great reminder to us all to take a moment for ourselves and our mental health. I look forward to doing more initiatives like this in the future.”
