Biography

Captain Benjamin Hazen, M.D., is an active duty Air Force trauma surgeon with the Special Operations Surgical Team (SOST) based out of UAB and a clinical assistant professor with the UAB Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.

Hazen came to UAB in 2023 from Emory University School of Medicine, where he completed his general surgery residency and served as a lecturer for the Emory University Surgery Clerkship. He earned his medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Hazen’s research interests include hemorrhage control and the use of whole blood, integrating minimally invasive surgery in trauma, and the optimization of resident education and autonomy.
