ESGR honors McMullan for commitment to students meeting military requirements
McMullan was nominated for the award by U.S. Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade John Woods, a junior in the School’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nurse Anesthesia Specialty Track.
“Dr. McMullan has been very supportive of my need to fulfill my reserve requirements,” Woods said. “Our master’s program is very demanding with little free time. However, Dr. McMullan has been very proactive in working with me.
“Having military members in the workforce can sometimes put a strain on employers which is why ESGR was created and continues to work with both the employers and the military members. Dr. McMullan has been as understanding as she can be under the circumstances.”
McMullan, the Nurse Anesthesia Specialty Track coordinator was presented a plaque and a citation denoting her honor by Nancy Waller, area chair for ESGR’s District 6.
“On behalf of the Alabama ESGR, I want to thank you for your past and continued support of your employees who are serving our country,” Waller said. “Your support of Lieutenant JG Woods is a compliment to you and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing.”
ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.
