UAB and UAB Medicine employees will receive extra holidays at the year’s end.
President Ray Watts has decided to add two additional holidays to this year’s calendar for eligible UAB employees — Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 — to provide employees additional time to spend with their families and friends. These dates are in addition to previously designated holidays Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
“The commitment that our faculty and staff demonstrate every day to our students, patients and the community is crucial to our continued success as a world-renowned university and academic medical center,” Watts said. “I appreciate your dedication, and I hope that all enjoy this additional time to relax and celebrate. It is well-deserved.”
Essential employees of UAB Hospital, UAB Police and UAB Call Center and units that receive personal holidays instead of designated ones will have 16 additional holiday hours added to their holiday banks, and they should check with their supervisors regarding staffing.
UAB is committed to helping its faculty and staff maintain a healthy work/life balance by providing paid time away from work.
“Taking time away from work to spend with family and recharge is essential,” said UAB Chief Human Resources Officer Janet May. “As a leading employer, UAB is committed to offering paid time away from work and is pleased to provide additional paid holidays this year.”
As with all UAB holidays, most campus operations will be suspended; but essential services will continue. UAB’s holiday schedule is available online.
