UAB has launched a new tool to help employees share key information about the university with prospective undergraduates and support them during the enrollment process.
The Refer a Future Blazer website provides everything employees need to brush up their knowledge on UAB’s undergraduate experience and tuition resources to share with prospective students. Employees can complete the form at uab.edu/refer to connect a student with UAB Undergraduate Admissions, which will reach out to schedule a campus visit. Every student referred through the site by May 1 who enrolls for fall term will receive a one-time $250 book scholarship.
“Employees have long been recommending that students consider UAB for their undergraduate education. Refer a Future Blazer just simplifies that process by ensuring both can access the information they need to make their path to campus as smooth as possible,” says Bradley Barnes, Ph.D., vice provost for Enrollment Management.
UAB offers 55 undergraduate majors and 86 minors, plus more than 250 registered student organizations and 18 NCAA Division 1 athletic programs. U.S. News & World Report named UAB in list of the top 20 online bachelor’s programs, and UAB consistently is ranked in the top 10 public universities in NIH funding, receiving more than $328 million in 2019. UAB also is the first health-promoting university in the United States since its adoption of the Okanagan Charter in December 2020.

These are just a few of UAB’s best features that employees can share with prospective students, Barnes says.
“UAB’s undergraduate experience is exceptional on so many levels,” Bradley said. “Not only are our academic programs outstanding — we have a vibrant visual and performing arts programs and half a dozen undergraduate degrees shared with the School of Medicine — but we offer cutting-edge facilities and are consistently recognized for our commitments to diversity and inclusiveness.
“Consider that alongside our research, service-learning and study-abroad opportunities and the fact that student entrepreneurs have launched 15 ventures right from campus, and it’s easy to see why UAB has become a top choice for undergraduate education, and why employees should encourage prospective students to choose UAB.”
