Thamar Solorio, Ph.D., received a National Science Foundation Career Award to support her research on authorship analysis in cross-domain settings. It focuses on improving the technology that will help determine authorship, generate a profile of the author or identify cases of plagiarism in written text.

By merging academia and community service, associate professor Cynthia Ryan, Ph.D., has been able to tackle heavy issues and effect change in the local community. For her efforts, Ryan received the 2014 Odessa Woolfolk Community Service Award.

Distinguished Professor William Cockerham, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Sociology, is editor-in-chief for "The Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of Health, Illness, Behavior and Society," which is a collaborative effort among UAB faculty.
