As UAB transitions to remote teaching and work in response to the global outbreak of COVID-19, employees can still access counseling services from the UAB Employee Assistance and Counseling Center (EACC) through their telemental health and distance counseling options, says Tami Long, Ph.D., EACC director.
“Continuing care and service for our clients is of the utmost important to us right now,” Long said. “Distance counseling enables us to continue providing for UAB employees while enacting social distancing measures for ourselves.”
Distance counseling, hosted through HIPAA-compliant secure telephone- and video-meeting host Zoom, is free and confidential and available. Employees who are current EACC clients and have scheduled appointments will receive instructions via email on how to access Zoom. To cancel upcoming appointments, call 205-934-2281. If you need to speak with your counselor, leave a voicemail and they will respond within one business day.
New clients interested in distance counseling can go to uab.edu/eacc and click the New Client Paperwork button to complete the necessary forms. The EACC program coordinator will then call within 24-48 hours of paperwork receipt Monday-Friday to discuss counseling options.
