A Partnership with the Heersink School of Medicine

This program was developed through a partnership between the UAB School of Health Professions Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences and the UAB Heersink School of Medicine’s Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology. The integrated curriculum is organ-based and modeled after the first two years of the curriculum at the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UASOM). Students interact with and learn from faculty who teach in various professional programs, including UAB’s medical school, dental school, and Physician Assistant Studies program.

Key components of the program that can help prepare students for admission into and success in professional schools include the following:

  • a rigorous, medical-focused curriculum.
  • a capstone Clinical Application and Simulation course with mannequin patients.
  • courses and test preparation programs to help improve MCAT, DAT, OAT, and GRE scores.
  • a three-part seminar series that
    • prepares students for application processes.
    • enhances professional development and social responsibility.
    • teaches critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • opportunities to gain medical exposure, volunteer service, and/or research experience.
  • customized advising in all areas above to focus and maximize a student’s success.
