Composed of undergraduate and graduate students, the UAB Career Center's Student Advisory Board (SAB) works to enhance and provide services to students and employers. UAB Career Center maintains a student advisory board each academic year. Beginning in March, application will be open for students to apply to serve on the advisory board for the next academic year. In September, applicants from first-year students will be able to join the advisory board for that year. Complete details are provided below.
The Board will include representatives across:
- College of Arts & Sciences
- School of Education and Human Sciences
- School of Health Professions
- School of Nursing
- School of Public Health
- Vulcan Materials Academic Success Center (Exploratory)
STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD OBJECTIVES
- Gain ideas and feedback regarding multiple facets of our operations.
- Engage in discussions regarding topics including career-related topics.
- The board will review and discuss programming, technology, policies, and outreach.
- Provide feedback on career development curriculum.
- Brainstorm best practices to increase student, alumni, and employer interactions.
- Discuss marketing and outreach efforts, including social media and ways to improve the effectiveness of our outreach to the student body.
Note: Board members do not provide advising services for students
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings throughout the year (three required meetings per term)
- Provide insight, feedback, and advice to the Career Center

TYPES OF STUDENTS WE ARE SEEKING:
- Representatives across academic disciplines and academic levels.
- Have an interest in contributing to the mission of UAB Career Center.
- Will represent other students with similar interests and aspirations.
- Will engage in conversation with UAB Career Center staff, with employers, and with each other in order to offer insights and suggestions.
- Will commit to attending all scheduled meetings. (First year students accepted to join the board will begin attending on the second meeting of fall semester.)
MEETING SCHEDULE FOR 2019-2020:
The 2019-2020 board will meet three times during fall semester and four times during spring semester.
All meetings are on Tuesdays
Time: 3:00-4:30 pm
Fall 2019 dates:
