SUCCESS Initiative Office of the Provost | Student Affairs

In a collaborative effort to engage future Blazers, the UAB Faculty Senate and the Office of Enrollment and Student Success hosted a Faculty Call Night on February 11, 2025.

Led by Eric Ford, Ph.D., chair of the Faculty Senate, and Bradley Barnes, Ph.D., senior vice provost for enrollment management & student success, the initiative aimed to connect with prospective undergraduate students ahead of an upcoming on-campus admissions event.

Faculty members personally called students who registered for the admissions event. Faculty represented various departments including the School of Engineering, School of Public Health, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, Heersink School of Medicine, Collat School of Business, and College of Arts & Sciences.

These conversations provided prospective students with valuable insights into UAB’s academic programs and student experience, reinforcing the university’s commitment to the student experience, from interest through graduation. Faculty members spoke directly with many students, left encouraging messages for others, and made multiple efforts to reach all who had signed up.

“This partnership between the Faculty Senate and the Office of Enrollment and Student Success highlights the deep investment our faculty have in student success from the very start of their journey at UAB,” said Ford. “Faculty engagement in the recruitment process ensures that prospective students not only feel welcomed but also gain a clearer understanding of the exceptional academic community at UAB.”

The event showcased the power of collaboration between faculty and enrollment professionals in shaping student engagement and success. By reaching out to prospective students in a meaningful way, faculty members played a vital role in fostering enthusiasm for UAB and strengthening the university’s ability to next generation of learners.

“This type of faculty involvement makes a significant difference in our efforts to recruit and retain outstanding students,” said Barnes. “Connecting students directly with faculty members helps them see the breadth of opportunities at UAB and the supportive learning environment they will experience.”
