The University of Alabama at Birmingham Collat School of Business has named C. Allen Gorman, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Management, Information Systems and Quantitative Methods.
"Dr. Gorman is an exceptional scholar and leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will help us elevate our management, information systems and entrepreneurship programs to new heights," said Eric P. Jack, Ph.D., dean of the Collat School of Business. "We are delighted that Dr. Gorman brings a strong record of success as a servant leader and also as a student advocate and mentor."
Gorman joins UAB from East Tennessee State University, where he served as chair of the Department of Management and Marketing and a professor of management. Leadership, performance management and human resource management are among Gorman's research expertise.
"I am incredibly excited and humbled to join such an esteemed group of faculty in the MISQ department in the Collat School of Business," Gorman said. "I look forward to continuing to grow and develop partnerships with the local business community that will create game-changing career opportunities for our students."
Gorman earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Georgia in 2000. In 2004, he earned his Master of Arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He earned his Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Tennessee. Prior to his time at ETSU, Gorman was a professor at Radford University in Virginia, where he also coordinated the university's industrial/organizational psychology master's program, and at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.
Gorman built strong relationships with the business community and raised more than $650,000 in endowments and gifts at his previous institutions. He has been published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, International Journal of Selection and Assessment, and Journal of Business and Psychology, among others.
