Mary Lynn Bailey is a senior from Scottsboro, Alabama studying entrepreneurship. She recently sat down with Collat's Alumni & Development Office to share her experiences at UAB and the Collat School of Business.

Q:  What are you passionate about? 

A:  Health and wellness, giving back to my local community, and empowering others to be the best versions of themselves.  

Q:  At Collat, I'm involved with __________________.

A: I work as the program assistant of the Barefield Entrepreneurship Program, and I am also a Business Student Leader.  

Q:  What made you choose to attend UAB Collat? 

A: I chose to attend UAB after reading about Collat’s new major in Entrepreneurship. After moving to Birmingham specifically to learn under Dr. Patrick Murphy in 2021, I am now grateful for the opportunity to work with him to continue expanding this phenomenal degree program. Additionally, I chose UAB due to its awards for demonstrating commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Q:  What is your favorite part about Collat? 

A:  My favorite part of Collat is the faculty and staff’s willingness, and eagerness, to help students succeed. I have experienced this from my professors, advisors, and supervisors while working at Collat. Collat’s commitment to student success is most evident in the Collat Career Center, where I have spent a lot of time in the last few years.

Q:  Who is your favorite professor or class and why? 

A:  Dr. Murphy’s The Entrepreneurial Mindset (ENT 270) is my favorite course at UAB. As the cornerstone class of the Barefield Entrepreneurship Program, the course explores topics such as risk and uncertainty, how to build a team, and how to make money and make an impact.  

Q:  The store I frequent the most is __________________. 

A:  Trader Joe’s and Aldi! I love a good grocery haul.   

Q:  Describe your day in a six-word sentence. 

A:  I learn, work, run, and repeat.  

Q:  What's the closest thing to you that is green? 

A:  I actually have green eyes!  

Q:  Who are the people who make your life better? 

A:  My mother and sister both work as public school teachers. My father and brother both work for the City of Scottsboro. Their dedication to improving their community through their work, and their constant support of my endeavors, empowers and inspires me to strive boldly for my aspirations!  

Q:  What is the best advice you ever received? 

A:  "For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  Galations 5:14
