Computers are at the center of everyday life. Knowing how they work and understanding how to improve and even transform them are skills valuable to many future careers. With a degree in Computer Science, you can design programs to track medical epidemics, analyze climate data, or track voter behavior. You can develop software, keep sensitive databases secure, or even help send people to Mars. With a degree in digital forensics you will learn about how to discover, recover, analyze, and present in court information that has been stored on digital devices used during illegal activities.

Continuing your Studies in our Graduate Programs

To expedite your passage into our graduate programs for CS undergraduates, we are presently offering automatic acceptance into all MS graduate programs in the Department of Computer Science (MSCS, MSDS, MSCyber) as follows:

  • MSCS and MSDS for BSCS graduates with 3.0 GPA,
  • MS Cybersecurity for any of our undergraduate majors (BSCS, BACS, BSDF, BIOI) with 3.0 GPA.
  • If your undergraduate major is not in Computer Science, you may consider applying to our Bridge to Cyber program to prepare yourself for entry to our Masters in Cyber Security program. See the Bridge to Cyber program page for more details.

We will also waive the application fee.

For administrative reasons, you must still apply for the program that you wish to enter (MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, or MS Cybersecurity), using the following link (which also contains details):

Why Study at UAB?

  • You'll have access to computing laboratories equipped with Microsoft Windows-based workstations, and specialized laboratories for networking using LINUX/Intel workstations. And you'll be able to apply for access to the Alabama Supercomputer Center.
  • The research of today leads to the products of tomorrow. The department sponsors seminars on cutting edge research, giving you the chance to hear outstanding guest lecturers along with local graduate students and faculty. These seminars are open to all students in the department and you may even receive credit for attending.
  • You can join the student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the oldest and largest professional society for computer professionals.
