The following scholarships are available exclusively for our majors (either B.A. or B.S.). You can apply for these scholarships through theAnthony and Barbara Barnard Endowed Support Fund
The Barnard scholarship is an annual award to a CS freshman. Dr. Anthony Barnard (Professor Emeritus) provided a generous financial gift that made this award possible.

Eligibility
Applicant must:
- be an incoming CS major.
- be a freshman (first-time or transfer) by the time the award begins.

Apply through the BSMART system. The application includes an essay highlighting your academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and any community service.

Barrett R. and Oceana A. Bryant Endowed Awards
The Bryant scholarships are annual awards to CS undergraduate and graduate students, to support travel to a conference. Money must be used to support conference costs (travel, hotel, registration).
For undergraduate students, the maximum amount of support is $200. For Ph.D. students, the maximum amount of support is $300 for domestic travel and $500 for international travel. A student can receive at most one award per calendar year. Awards to eligible students are made until the available funds for undergraduates (40%) and graduates (60%) are exhausted for that academic year, in the order that applications are received.
Since this award is awarded many times per year, at staggered intervals as students get their papers accepted to conferences, it is not administered through the BSMART system.

Eligibility Requirements for Undergraduate students
- Applicant must be a CS major with an overall GPA of 3.0.
- The professor supervising the student's research must provide a letter/email stating that there is no travel support available from his/her grant.

Eligibility Requirements for Ph.D. students
- Applicant must have a 'satisfactory' rating in the most recent annual evaluation.
- The student's advisor must provide a letter/email stating there is no travel support available from his/her grant.
- The student must provide evidence that he/she applied for a GSA travel grant as soon as he/she knew that their paper was accepted to the conference.

Joseph M. Fontana Scholarships
The Fontana Scholarships are annual awards to exceptional CS juniors and seniors. A generous contribution by Dr. Jeanne Hutchison in memory of her husband Joseph M. Fontana, who was a member of the CS faculty for several years, makes these awards possible. Two scholarships of up to $6,000 each are awarded each year. Award may only be used for tuition, student fees, books, laboratory fees, supplies, and other items deemed appropriate by the selection committee. The award may be renewed for a second year, and awardees are encouraged to apply for renewal.

Eligibility
Applicant must:
- be CS majors with a CS GPA of 3.5 or higher and an overall GPA of 3.0.
- be junior or senior status by the time the award begins.
- be enrolled full-time during each semester the scholarship is given.
- demonstrate outstanding performance and potential.
Preference will be given to citizens and legal permanent residents of the United States.

Joyce Iannuzzi Endowed Scholarship
The Joyce Iannuzzi Endowed Scholarship is an annual award of $2,500 to a CS major, made available through gifts in honor of Mrs. Iannuzzi’s long-time employment with the UAB University Computer Center.-
Eligibility
Applicant must:
- be a CS major with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- demonstrate academic promise.

Madhav Praveen Memorial Scholarship in Computer Science
The Madhav Praveen Memorial Scholarship is an annual award of up to $500 to a CS major, made available through gifts in memory of Madhav Praveen.

Eligibility
- Applicants must be a freshman currently enrolled in or admitted to a degree-granting program in the Department of Computer Science at UAB.
- Applicants must have demonstrated solid academic promise and achievement and have earned at least an overall 3.0 GPA in coursework completed prior to the time of application.
- The Fund shall provide support to students for whom affordability may be an obstacle and who might otherwise be unable to attend the University.
- Preference will be given to students with financial need.

The Fast Slow Motion Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science
The intent of this annual scholarship is to support future leaders in Birmingham.

Eligibility
- Applicant must be currently enrolled in or admitted to a degree-granting program in the Department of Computer Science at UAB.
- Applicant must have taken at least one CS course.
- Applicants should demonstrate solid academic promise and achievement and have earned at least an overall 3.0 GPA in coursework completed prior to the time of application.
- Preference will be given to applicants who plan to begin their career in Birmingham.
- Recipients are eligible to apply for the award in subsequent years.
- Recipients are eligible to receive other forms of student financial aid for which they may qualify.
- The award will be applied towards tuition and fees, and disbursed in equal amounts over the regular terms of the award year unless otherwise instructed by the scholarship selection committee. Any scholarship funds in excess of the amount required for tuition and fees may be disbursed to the student for books, supplies, room and board, or other school-related expenses.
- The number and amount of awards shall be left to the discretion of the scholarship selection committee.

Warren & Bobbie Jones Endowed Scholarship in CS
The Jones Scholarship is an annual award to a CS junior or senior who is performing, or will soon perform, research with a CS faculty member. Drs. Bobbie J. and Warren T. Jones (Professor Emeritus) provided a generous financial gift that made this award possible.

Eligibility
Applicants must:
- be CS majors with a CS GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- be junior or senior status by the time the award begins.
Preference will be given to students who are actively performing research with a CS faculty member, but a future research project may also be used to qualify for this scholarship. Preference will also be given to students enrolled in CS 398: Undergraduate Honors Research or CS 399: Directed Readings, either at present or in the coming semester.
