IHR’s Birmingham Immersive Community Empowerment Program (BICEP) offers undergraduate students the opportunity to work in and with community organizations for the academic year. Funded by a grant from the David Mathews Center for Civic Life, students engage in paid internships and enroll in a class to gain practical experience and develop professional skills such as grant writing and non-profit management. Current partner organizations include Lakeshore Foundation, the ACLU of Alabama, the Offender Alumni Association, and the Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership. Call for Applications for the BICEP Internship
Are you passionate about human rights, social justice, and interested in working in organizations working in this space? Are you interested in developing new professional skills, connections, and networks? This internship is for you!
If selected as one of the BICEP interns, you will have the opportunity to work with the following participating organizations for two semesters!
- Lakeshore Foundation
- Offender Alumni Association (OAA)
- American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alabama Women’s Rights Program
- Alabama Interfaith Refugee Partnership (ALIRP)
- Alabama Holocaust Education Center (AHEC)
- Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI)
- Invisible Histories
- Greater-Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution (GASP)
We are looking for dedicated, passionate undergraduate students for these positions. Students have the option to choose which organization they want to work with, and each organization will choose one intern. If selected as an intern, students will also receive a stipend for their contributions!
