Institute for Human Rights College of Arts and Sciences

We invite UAB faculty, post-docs, and community researchers to become members of the UAB Institute for Human Rights’ research arm. IHR aims to cultivate and promote innovation and collaboration of human rights and related research across the UAB and beyond.

Any researcher working on scholarship relating to human rights, broadly defined, is welcome to apply. Research Scholar appointments are made based on quality and relevance to IHR and are considered secondary appointments. Research Scholars are invited to participate in IHR’s activities, especially in developing innovative and creative approaches to human rights and social justice-oriented research. Research Scholars will be invited to participate in our programs, skill development workshops, networking opportunities, and research seminars.

Appointments are available at the following levels:

  • Senior Scientist: equivalent to Professor
  • Scientist: equivalent to Associate Professor
  • Associate Scientist: equivalent to Assistant Professor, Instructor, or Adjunct faculty member
  • Associate: non-faculty status, including trainees at the post-doc and graduate level
  • Community Researchers
