Offenders Alumni Association (OAA)

Mya is a sophomore attending UAB as a Public Health major minoring in Medical Sociology. Mya became interested in Public Health after learning more about the health disparities that are found in Birmingham, AL and surrounding cities. She hopes to one day become a founder of a nonprofit organization and create programs that improve the health of inner city communities. “The inequalities found in the healthcare system is something I’m passionate about as someone who came from a community affected by these disparities. Health disparities are a part of a larger infrastructure that disproportionately affect people of lower socio-economic status. This is a human rights issue that I hope to aid in improving.”
