Jennifer Ludwick earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Communications from the University of Tennessee. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Public Administration and Public Health at UAB. Jennifer joined the Institute for Human Rights in the fall of 2024 as a graduate teaching assistant. Prior to this role, she dedicated over 20 years to advocating for vulnerable populations in the fields of public health, education, and victim rights. Jennifer's career began as a Peace Corps volunteer during the height of the AIDS epidemic in Kenya. She then worked at a shelter in Arizona, where she helped children from around the world who had been rescued after being smuggled or trafficked into the US. Following this, she took a position in Sudan with the Carter Center, working on Guinea Worm eradication and Trachoma control. Jennifer then took a break from challenging assignments and accepted a job in Hawaii, where she worked on an innovative decolonization project. She later returned to Alabama and began working for a local non-profit that works to alleviate poverty in Africa and the Caribbean. When COVID-19 affected the world, Jennifer was recruited to create safety measures and policies for a non-profit serving local homeless and domestic violence shelters. Currently, Jennifer serves as the Scholarship Administrator for Renaissance Scholarships, which offers scholarships to academically accomplished but economically disadvantaged K-12 students.
Jennifer is actively involved in several community organizations. She sits on the Board of Directors for Lift Up the Vulnerable, an organization that combats trafficking in war-torn countries, and the Community Engagement Board of RISE Against Hunger, which supplies emergency food relief worldwide. Her passion for advocacy and leadership extends to legislative initiatives in education and victim rights advocacy. She also helped co-found an organization called Global Anti-Trafficking Alliance Birmingham, which unites Birmingham-based anti-trafficking leaders to collaborate, raise awareness, and empower advocacy for local and global anti-trafficking efforts.
When Jennifer is not managing her work responsibilities, volunteering, or furthering her education through classes, she cherishes the moments spent with her loving and supportive husband of 10 years and her two incredible children. Whether exploring nature, traveling the globe, engaging in family game nights, or simply enjoying each other's company, these precious moments with her family are the highlight of her days.
