About Adare
Adare is a non-binary artist with a rare disease who lives in Hawaii. In their words:
In 2024 I'll be looking at 24 surgeries for the two hands/arms combined. I got the Hawaiian Crow; the ʻalalā tattooed on my chest as a symbol of my disability and gender. The hawaiian crow is actually a raven due to the amount pinion feathers it has. I find solace in this miss identifying as I often get in is identified with my gender. The alalā in my tattoo is holding a paintbrush in its beak, these ravens often use sticks as a way of creatively hunting food. This reminds me to find ways to use tools that will help me in my art and to try to do things creatively if not differently. To never give up doing art; just find a new way and tool to do it.
They specialize in performance art that focuses on social advocacy for the disabled community as well as the LGBTQ+, and aging community. They work five jobs and continues to make performance art that makes people stop and listen to multiple issues.
