Human Imaging Shared Facility
The Human Imaging Shared Facility (HISF) provides advanced medical imaging resources and services in support of campus wide research, including the O’Neal Cancer Center clinical studies.
- The mission of the Human Imaging Shared Facility (HISF) is to ignite excellence in patient care and research through world-class imaging and analysis services. The HISF advances imaging-related research activities of UAB investigators, including facilitation of oncologic clinical trials through the UAB O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) and other non-cancer clinical trials. Many clinical trials at UAB utilize human imaging that include X-rays, CT, MRI, PET CT, PET MRI, mammography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and/or image-guided biopsies or procedures. The HISF provides the infrastructure to coordinate clinical research that utilizes imaging end points and/or that is designed to validate novel imaging biomarkers, spanning first in human studies and phase I-III clinical trials, including single or multi-centered trials initiated by UAB and external investigators, industry, or cooperative groups.
- The Human Imaging Shared Facility (HISF) enhances imaging-related research activities and clinical trials with imaging endpoints across the UAB enterprise through standardization of imaging research protocols and coordination of non-routine imaging services. Human imaging research is broad based and crosses many clinical specialties
