Turn around times for each set of experiments will primarily be determined based on the type of service that is provided, the number and type of metabolites of interest per sample, along with the lab itself that is determined to be the best choice to carry out the analysis at the time of submission.
In most cases if an SOP (stanardized method) is already set up and in use in the facility of choice (one that commonly analyzes the metabolite(s) of interest), turn around will generally take ~4±1 week for “targeted” analysis, and 6-8 weeks for “discovery” or “unbiased” analysis. This is from the time of submission to sample processing, including LCMS analysis, and final reporting.
However, especially in the case of the tarted and/ or metabolic flux analysis studies, if an SOP has not been generated for the metabolite(s) of interest, the purchase of chemistries & disposables in addition to methods development can take up to 6-8 weeks. In this case we will attempt to find an alternative lab that has the SOP of interest up and running.
