Discover UAB (for university employees) provides a comprehensive "first look" at UAB, including our core values, essential expectations, and important resources. New Hires will receive the date for their Discover UAB session in their offer letter from Talent Acquisition. Employees can speak with a Benefits Specialist at the end of the Discover UAB program during the optional benefits session.

Discover UAB Agenda
Welcome to UAB! As a new member of the Blazer community, you will participate in Discover UAB, an orientation program. This program will provide information, tips, and best practices to jump-start your onboarding process. The Discover UAB orientation consists of two parts: watching online videos (eLearning) and participating in an interactive Zoom meeting.
Discover UAB Part 1: eLearning course
Please set aside time to watch all the video modules (preferably before the Zoom meeting). You can stop and start at your convenience. The total viewing time is about two hours.
This course covers the following topics:

- Campus Safety
- Policies and Procedures

Discover UAB Wrap-up Zoom
You will attend a Zoom meeting from 2:00-3:00 PM on an assigned date (see offer letter) to welcome you and other new employees, answer your questions, and learn additional information. If possible, we ask that you join us with a device that will allow your camera to be turned on.

Registration for Discover UAB
A list of new staff is provided to Learning and Development, and they will be automatically enrolled in the e-Learning (part 1) and Zoom (part 2) portions of Discover UAB. Once enrolled, an email notification containing access information, links, and a calendar invite will automatically be sent to the employee. This notification typically comes the Friday before each orientation.
If you have a faculty member or post-doc that you would like to attend our orientation, please contact Learning and Development at learndev@uab.edu. The deadline to request an employee to be added to a Discover UAB session is Wednesday before the listed session date.
