Streamlining how we work at UAB — through process improvements, technology tools and other changes — can help save one of our most valuable commodities on campus: time.
UAB IT’s various teams work with strategic partners across campus to find ways to improve how we do our work, whether it’s automating a process that previously existed on paper or introducing a new tool to streamline procedures.
Over the past nine months, the majority of wins UAB IT has achieved have been those that improve processes. For example:
- Access to the Cheaha supercomputer has been automated, so our Research Computing team has more time to help you use the tools rather than setting up the accounts.
- ONE Card forms have been streamlined, eliminating an old paper trail.
- A new financial aid letter process gets letters into the hands of students in minutes, rather than 48 hours.
“For our busy colleagues at UAB, time is precious, and we know that saving time can help save money,” said Robert Howard, associate vice president for information technology and deputy CIO. “We’re glad to help do whatever we can do to streamline the load and help you get back to more important work.”
