Lung Biology

The program in lung biology advances understanding of acute and chronic lung diseases through innovative basic and translational research. Our mission is to uncover mechanisms of lung pathology and discover new therapies to improve global respiratory health. We foster a collaborative environment to accelerate translating basic science into clinical applications, inspiring the next generation of physician-scientists and PhDs.

In collaboration with LHC Scientific Director Amit Gaggar, M.D., Ph.D., and Program Manager Miki Jinno, our program thrives on a dynamic network that includes the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care, the Targeted Metabolomics and Proteomics Laboratory (TMPL), and the Lung Health Center.

Our multidisciplinary team of investigators at UAB are dedicated to advancing our understanding of lung biology and committed to discovering new pathways for preventing and managing pulmonary illnesses, including cystic fibrosis, COVID-19, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and critical care medicine. For more information about the program.

Funded by an NIH training (T32) grant, the program offers two annual pilot awards to support emerging scientists.
