The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Spine Section is a center of excellence in patient care and provides comprehensive services to a full range of pathologies. The research in spine surgery is led by three fellowship-trained spine surgeons who investigate a wide range of conservative and surgical treatments. The section also collaborates with multiple departments across UAB to advance spine research.

The Spine Section further provides opportunities for medical students, residents, and fellows to be involved in research studies. Overall, our spine research aims to improve patient outcomes with spine surgeries as well trying to find new solutions to complex pathologies. Our research interests include low back pain, neck pain, spinal fusions, spinal cord injury, spinal deformity/scoliosis research, and spinal tumors.

The section has also received extramural support in our pursuit to improve patient care through research. If you are interested in contributing towards our research philanthropically, kindly visit our giving page.
