Launched in 2012, the Sports Medicine Research Fellowship accepts one research fellow a year to engage in several sections across the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The program prides itself on its academic productivity, engaging in projects which range from isolated case reports to prospective randomized multicenter studies. Any sports and shoulder topics are potential study domains. The team routinely publishes in lead journals including JBJS, CORR, JSES, Annals of Surgery, and JAMA Surgery.

The Sports and Shoulder Research Fellowship is led by Eugene Brabston, M.D., asssitant professor, and Amit Momaya, M.D., section chief sports medicine.
