Biography

Dr. Davies is the director of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at UAB and holds the John. W. Kirklin Endowed Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He has an active clinical practice with specific interest in cardiac valvular disease. Along with UAB cardiologists, he started the transcatheter aortic valve program, which has performed more transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures than any other center in the state. Dr. Davies performs more than 100 open aortic valve replacements annually. Through this volume of procedures, Dr. Davies has a very good understanding of the disease process and the surgical treatment of vascular heart disease.

Dr. Davies is a fellow at the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, Medical Association of Alabama, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, Society of University Surgeons, Southern Surgical Association, American Heart Association, and the Birmingham Cardiovascular Society. Dr. Davies is interested in clinical research related to outcomes analysis in adult cardiac surgery with an emphasis on thoracic aortic pathology, as well as the analysis and development of endovascular techniques in adult cardiac surgery with an emphasis on percutaneous cardiac valve procedures.
