UAB and UAB Medicine employees will receive extra holidays at the year’s end.
This year, Christmas and New Year’s Day occur on Sundays. President Ray Watts has decided also to observe Dec. 23 and Dec. 30 as holidays — in addition to previously designated holidays Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 — to provide employees additional time to spend with their families and friends.
Despite the many challenges posed during the last year, employees worked every day to ensure that UAB continued to excel in all areas of our mission, Watts says.
“I appreciate our faculty and staff’s commitment to our students, patients and the community, and their unwavering dedication to making UAB a world-renowned university and academic medical center,” he said. “I hope that all enjoy this additional time to relax and celebrate with family and friends. It is well-deserved.”
Employees of UAB Hospital, UAB Police, UAB Call Center and units who receive personal holidays instead of designated ones will have two days added to their holiday banks, and they should check with their supervisors regarding staffing.
As with all UAB holidays, most campus operations will be suspended; but essential services will continue. UAB’s holiday schedule is available online.
