The UAB Department of Psychiatry is recruiting healthy adolescent participants for a clinical research study. The study will compare healthy adolescents and adolescents with functional seizures (FS).
To participate in this research, you must:
- be 11 to 18 years old
- have no diagnosed medical conditions
- have a parent/guardian available to participate in lab visits
If you choose to participate in the study, you will be part of the healthy control group. You will come for 2 lab visits 13 weeks apart. The adolescent can be compensated up to $100 total. To find out more about the study, call 205-975-4205 or email pedshealthlab@uabmc.edu.

You may be eligible to participate if you identify as female, White or African American, are aged 35-65, and have a BMI of 30+. Participants will receive $50 as thanks for their participation.
This study is a 5-hour workshop delivered in groups that is based on principles of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Participants will learn new skills to facilitate the adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors, such as eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. These skills include identifying values, tolerating the discomfort associated with lifestyle change, identifying self-sabotaging thoughts, and more!

LGBTQ+ Cancer Well-Being Study
Do you identify as an individual living with cancer and part of the LGBTQIA+ community or a care partner of someone in this community? A research lab at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is looking to learn about the day-to-day experiences of LGBTQIA+ cancer survivors and their care partners. We are interested in how individuals manage difficult situations related to their respective roles in their relationships. Individuals living with cancer often encounter stressful situations that can impact their mood and any additional stressors from living as a sexual or gender minority with a lack of resources adds an increased risk of experiencing stressful situations. The goal of this work is to develop resources that better support the well-being of LGBTQIA+ individuals living with cancer and their care partners. This study will take place FULLY online with completion of daily surveys. All participants will be compensated. To learn more about our study contact us at starlab@uab.edu

Study of an investigational device for improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is an external headset that attaches behind the ears to deliver a small electrical current to the vestibular system – the balance system in the inner ear. Previous research suggests that activating the vestibular nerve may cause a reduction in body fat but also improve glycemic control. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether frequent use of the device, along with a lifestyle modification program, can improve glycemic control. This medication is related to blood pressure and is safe to take with or without hypertension. Eligible participants must be healthy men and women, African American, and have no history of diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems. The study involves performing some exercise, taking sacubitril/valsartan, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $675 for completing all the visits.
