UAB is leading an internal review to select a small group of proposals to send forward to the State of Alabama for funding consideration as part of a nearly $249 million settlement. The deadline for proposals to UAB’s internal review process is Aug. 31.

Help us find out by joining our study at UAB by participating in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. Effective Oct. 1, 2023, eligible UAB employees who are in their initial six-month probationary period will be allowed to utilize their accrued vacation time and three personal holidays with their supervisor's approval. Additionally, two extra holidays have been added to this year’s holiday calendar for eligible UAB employees — Dec. 26, 2023, and Jan. 2, 2024.

The UAB Department of Psychiatry is recruiting healthy adolescent participants for a clinical research study. The study will compare healthy adolescents and adolescents with functional seizures (FS).

To participate in this research, you must:
- be 11 to 18 years old
- have no diagnosed medical conditions
- have a parent/guardian available to participate in lab visits

If you choose to participate in the study, you will be part of the healthy control group. You will come for 2 lab visits 13 weeks apart. The adolescent can be compensated up to $100 total. To find out more about the study, call 205-975-4205 or email pedshealthlab@uabmc.edu.
