TRANSCEND-T2D-2 is a clinical research study for people with type 2 diabetes. This study will test if an investigational medicine (the medicine being studied) can help with blood glucose (sugar) and weight management compared with an existing treatment for type 2 diabetes. You may be able to join the research study if you are aged 18 years or older, have type 2 diabetes, have been taking 1500mg or more of metformin each day for at least 3 months (with or without SGLT2i), have a BMI of 25 or more, have HbA1c levels of 7.0% to 10.5%. About the Clinical Trial:
The purpose of this NIH funded trial is to examine the effects of three different diabetes treatments to determine if they improve night-time blood sugars.
This Trial Involves:
- A screening visit that includes a blood draw, urine test and physical exam
- Treatment with Metformin, Insulin Glargine (long-acting insulin) or the experimental drug Dorzagliatin which is FDA-approved for research, for up to 8 weeks
- 2-4 inpatient visits/ including two overnight stays at the Clinical Research Unit at 15th floor of Jefferson Tower.
All visits to be completed within a three-month period. Study-related tests and procedures are provided free of charge. Participants will be compensated up to $2,500 for study completion. All Participants must be Diagnosed with type 2 DM and Not on any type of insulin therapy.

We are currently recruiting participants aged 18-30 with normal or corrected to normal vision and participants aged 18-89 with Macular Degeneration/Stargardt's Disease for a clinical research study that aims to understand how individuals learn to use their peripheral vision following the loss of central vision. This study is being conducted in the Civitan International Research Center and involves a total of 27 in-person visits over the course of 1.5 to 3 months. There are 2 MRI visits (1 at the beginning of the study and one at the end), 5 assessment visits (3 baseline assessments and 2 post assessments), and a total of 20 training sessions (in between the baselines and the post assessments). Compensation for full participation in this study is $350.

Participants between the ages of 35 and 65 are needed for this study. The purpose of the study is to fill in what we don’t know about how schizophrenia affects people as they get older. We want to find out what we can do to help older individuals with schizophrenia live better lives. The study includes 4 visits over the course of two weeks. The screening visit will take 2 hours. The first study visit will take 3 hours. The second study visit will take 2 hours. The third study visit will take 9 hours. This study will include: a clinical interview, cognitive batteries, questionnaires and assessments related to your daily and psychiatric functioning, two 90 minute MRI scans of your brain, a fasting blood draw, and a urine drug screen and pregnancy test (for females). Join us at the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic at UAB! We are looking for volunteers to join a Phase 1 clinical trial to test the safety and immune response of a new HIV vaccine. The study is for adults who are HIV-negative, in good health, and aged 18 to 55. Procedures will include blood draws and injections of the study vaccine, as well as the collection of white blood cells through a procedure called leukapheresis. Our study is looking for physically active and inactive postmenopausal women of Black or White race. We are testing the impact of race, exercise habits, and living conditions on heart disease risk in postmenopausal women. Participation only involves two, one-hour long visits to the UAB Center for Exercise Medicine and offers compensation up to $200. Participants Needed. We are recruiting individuals who have experienced a stroke and are able to walk with minimal restriction and also age similar control participants that have NOT experienced a stroke between the ages of 18-89 for a research study on walking. The focus of this study is to understand how to optimize the delivery of a combined strength and aerobic training regimen to individuals with post stroke hemiparesis and reduce overuse and inefficiencies associated with the unaffected leg while walking. Major Depressive Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by periods of low mood, low self-esteem, and loss of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. The purpose of this clinical research study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug for Major Depressive Disorder, also known as Major Depression. Study participation may include several clinic visits over a period of up to 5 months with an opportunity to conduct some visits either virtually or in-clinic. University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking cigarette smokers who would like to quit smoking for participation in a scientific research study. The research study involves free counseling and treatment provided in a comfortable, supportive setting. The study may involve ingestion of psilocybin, a psychoactive substance found in psychedelic mushrooms that have been used as a sacrament in various cultures. Some research studies have suggested that psychedelics, when administered under interpersonally supportive and well-prepared conditions, may be effective in helping people overcome addictions.
Questionnaires, interviews, and biological measures of smoking will be used to assess the treatment's effects on mood and smoking. Participants will be compensated $50 per session.
