Graduate Certificate in Health Promotion Across the Lifespan

The Health Promotion Across the Lifespan Graduate Certificate intends to prepare students to address community health concerns from childhood to adulthood. In the recent past, emphasis has been placed on the ability of professionals in non-profit, governmental, and agency settings to have the skills and training needed to effectively communicate a variety of health-seeking behaviors to a diverse population. Skills such as adapting to various community groups, providing effective programming in multiple settings such as the workplace, assessing the service population's needs, and using a client-centered lens to develop meaningful interventions are only a few of the needed competencies in today’s job market.
Admissions Requirements

Course and Certificate Requirements
The certificate consists of six Community Health and Human Services courses, totaling 18 credit hours to complete. The course list can be found in the Graduate Catalog.
Please note that all students enrolled in the certificate program must apply to receive their certificates and be registered for courses when they submit the completed UAB Application for Graduate Degree or Certificate Form to the Graduate School. The Graduate School does not award certificates or degrees retroactively.
Graduate Studies and Career Opportunities
Over the last decade, significant emphasis has been placed on the ability of professionals in non-profit, governmental, agency, and clinical settings to have the skills and training needed to plan, implement and evaluate health interventions effectively. This certificate helps individuals gain those skills to work as health coaches in those organizations or independently throughout the human lifespan.
A health promotion across the lifespan certificate holder wishing to apply to the master’s degree program in community health must complete all application requirements outlined in the UAB Graduate School guidelines. A maximum of four certificate courses may be applied toward the master’s degree once the student has been admitted to the program.
