Earn your Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education!

UAB’s BS in Early Childhood Education helps prepare students become teachers that assist young children in reaching developmental milestones from birth to third grade. Students in this program are passionate about helping young children learn and develop strong foundations to help them succeed.

The program is designed to give our students the tools and knowledge to feel confident in their classrooms, creating lesson plans and learning activities, and implementing effective assessments to help every child they teach receive a high-quality education from a well-trained and prepared professional.

Curriculum

Professional preparation includes courses in humanistic and behavioral studies, elementary education, curriculum and teaching, evaluation of teaching and learning, extensive pre-internship field experiences in birth through third grade settings, and an internship.

It may be observing how children interact with the world around them or being amazed by their thinking and growing personalities. Could be just loving to play with children creating our imaginative worlds. Yet, I can say that I always love learning what they are capable of doing while I'm at UAB.

I chose Early Childhood Education because of the amazing teachers whose dedication has inspired me to embark on a path of influencing young minds. My goal is creating an environment where children feel supported in their learning journey.

Savannah Pearson

As I pursued my major, I discovered a love for the process of learning and whole child development. Watching a child learn and having them trust you with their education is truly special. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at UAB and have decided to pursue a master's degree in Mathematical Instructional Coaching in the future. My hope is to continue advocating for children struggling with multiplication, simply because they are worth it.
