The Education Specialist in TESOL Certification Track is for individuals who hold the ALSDE's Class A certification in any teaching field and wish to earn an Ed.S. degree and Class AA certification in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This program provides advanced training in the teaching and learning of English as a Second Language (ESL).

Coursework takes a minimum of 36 semester hours to complete and includes courses in culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, instruction, and assessment: reading/writing and listening/speaking, and teacher leadership as well as advisor-approved elective courses and research. A program checklist can be found on the right, and course-specific information may be found in the UAB Graduate Catalog.

Admissions Requirements

• Candidates must hold current Class A certification from the Alabama State Department of Education in any institutional area.
