Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Assistant Professor and Section Chief of Sports Medicine Amit Momaya, M.D., was a co-author for the research article “Does Functional Bracing of the Unstable Shoulder Improve Return to Play in Scholastic Athletes? Returning the Unstable Shoulder to Play.”

In the UAB MedCast Podcast "Knee Pain in Adolescents" Kevin Williams, M.D., explores the various possible etiologies of knee pain and briefly reviews causes and treatment for some of the more common problems.

Ashish Shah, M.D., FAAOS, associate professor, director of international education, was featured in a full-page spread of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Now magazine Dec. 2020 issue.

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery consultant and former faculty member Jack E. Lemons, Ph.D., recently received the Charles B. Dudley award. Lemons is also a professor emeritus in the UAB Schools of Medicine, Engineering and Dentistry.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes incoming trauma surgeon Joseph “Joey” Johnson, M.D., as an assistant professor.

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Assistant Professor Mark Kunkel, DPM, is retiring after 22 years of service at UAB, where he started on Jul. 1, 1998.

UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is now beginning to enroll in their second study in the Major Extremity Trauma and Research Consortium, sponsored by the Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program (DoDPRORP).

Haley McKissack, BA (research fellow, 2018), was also an author.

Several faculty members and residents participated in a symposium or paper sessions at the 2020 Orthopaedic Trauma Association Meeting, which was virtual this year.
