The Alabama Chapter of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship is preparing the next generation of nurse leaders to address complex health needs and empower vulnerable people to embrace healthier lives and create healthier communities.
Alabama Schweitzer Fellows are competitively chosen from students enrolled in graduate and professional schools around the state who demonstrate a passion for cultivating positive change in Alabama communities.
Fellows commit to conducting a year-long service project (200+ hours over the year) and engaging in monthly, interprofessional leadership training. Students plan and implement the service project to address an unmet need in the community. They receive additional mentorship from a community site partner and an academic mentor in their program of study.
The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship typically selects two nursing students each year. Nursing students in all graduate specialty tracks may apply for the fellowship at any point in their program of study, provided they remain enrolled in a program throughout the fellowship year.
