The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing and the Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority partnered to expand upon the women’s health clinic, offering more advanced services to underserved patients across Jefferson County. Opening in February 2023, the clinic offers a variety of women’s health services including primary and preventive care, as well as diagnosis and management of various gynecological conditions for reproductive age, perimenopausal, and post-menopausal patients. The clinic also provides counseling for all sexual and reproductive health needs.
The clinic is open on Thursdays at Cooper Green and is run by Kelley Borella, DNP, CRNP, WHNP-BC, and Joy P. Deupree, PhD, CRNP, WHNP-BC, FAAN. Dr. Borella has been a women’s health nurse practitioner for 18 years and Dr. Deupree for 26 years. In addition to a focus on women’s health, Dr. Deupree is the leading expert in the field of health literacy in Alabama and uses her expertise in that area to support the educational needs of the patient population she and Dr. Borella see at Cooper Green Mercy Health Services Authority.
