Shirley Salloway Kahn, Ph.D., has been promoted to senior vice president for Development, Alumni and External Relations. The title change reflects the importance of this role in the university’s operations and future growth, and it acknowledges Kahn’s contributions to UAB’s successes.

UAB experts say the hospital made preparations to manage Ebola as soon as they learned of the outbreak in Africa. “We have a tiered system of medical professionals and first-responders who have anticipated and planned for just about any situation that could affect our area,” said Sarah Nafziger, M.D., associate professor of emergency medicine and assistant EMS medical director for the Alabama Department of Public Health.
