When you provide UAB with emergency contact information, UAB Human Resources can reach out to your loved ones if you experience an emergency while working at UAB. This information will be kept confidential and will be used only in the event of an emergency.
Examples of situations that have occurred in the past include:
- illness or medical emergencies that result in an employee’s being sent to the hospital;
- an injury on the job that requires an employee to need assistance returning home; and
- a friend, roommate or someone other than the employee’s emergency contact calling to report that the employee has been hospitalized.
If it is possible, UAB Human Resources will always communicate with the employee first to make sure the right person is contacted. More than one person may be designated as an emergency contact, but only one can be identified as the primary contact.
Employees can add and update their emergency contacts in the myUAB portal at any time using the Oracle HR & Finance app.
For detailed instructions on how to create and update emergency contact information, see Creating Emergency Contacts in Oracle Self-Service in the HR Connect Portal.
