Alcohol and Drug Education Workshop
This interactive two-hour workshop encourages students to identify ways to make responsible choices to avoid negative consequences of alcohol. The goal of this workshop is to provide a basis of understanding about the science behind the effects of alcohol, motivation to maintain healthy drinking behaviors or motivation to change drinking behaviors to include safe drinking or non-drinking habits.
The Office of Community Standards and Accountability collaborates with the Wellness Promotion Office for this educational program. This interactive workshop is specifically designed for 1st time and minor violations of the UAB Student Conduct Code as it relates to alcohol either on campus, in the residence halls, or in the community.
Program and Rules
- Arrive to your workshop on time. Students who are more than five minutes late will have to reschedule for another workshop.
- If a student reschedules a workshop, the CSSA office must be notified 48 hours in advance of the date of the scheduled workshop. Contact our office at 205.975.9509 or email

- Any disrespect of peers or the instructors will not be tolerated. The student may be removed from the workshop. If this happens, the student must reschedule and will likely have to visit with a representative from the Office of Community Standards and Accountability
- Students who text or sleep during the workshop may be removed from the workshop. The student will be assigned additional sanctions.
- Student must come to workshops completely sober.
- Student must demonstrate active participation in all discussion and activities.
- Confidentiality is strictly enforced, keeping confidential all that is said during the workshop to ensure the privacy of others. Breaching this confidentiality will terminate your participation in the program.
Ethics and Decision Making Workshop
This interactive 2hr. workshop reviews integrity and the components of ethical decision-making. The goals of the workshop are to allow students to reflect on their specific situation that brought them to the workshop, to explore personal ethical decision-making, to help students develop moral attitudes and behavior to care for and respect the rights of others, and to encourage students to assume personal responsibility for their decisions.
