Same-Day Crisis Appointments
Crisis appointments (same day) are reserved for students who are experiencing suicide ideation, have been the victim of a recent crime or have experienced a recent life-altering event. Students can schedule a crisis appointment by calling 205-934-5816 or coming to the Student Counseling Services office at the Student Health and Wellness Center.

Next Day Urgent Care Appointments
Urgent appointments (within 2-3 days) are for students who are experiencing high distress, but there is not a high risk for harm.

For mental health crises after hours
988 is the newly launched Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. 988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help students experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be:
- (1) Thoughts of suicide,
- (2) Mental health or substance use crisis, or
- (3) Any other kind of emotion distress.
Students can call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.
