Each year we have special events in addition to our regularly scheduled socializations. These events give all of our families the opportunity to interact in a special setting. They include:
Meals of Thanks
Winter Carnival
Health Fair
Egg Hunt
Family Fun Day
Transition Ceremony
Consult your monthly calendars for dates and times for these events. (See the attached file for our Hazardous Weather Policy at the bottom of this page).
MEALS OF THANKS
In November we celebrate Thankgiving with Meals of Thanks in Jefferson, Walker and St. Clair Counties. Families and staff meet in a designanted restaurant and enjoy a meal together. It is a wonderful time to meet and welcome new families who have joined our program at the end of the summer.
WINTER CARNIVAL
We like to celebrate many different customs at our Winter Carnival. Generally held in the fellowship hall of a local church; we provide exhibits, games and information about Mexican Christmas traditions, Kwanza, the Jewish Celebration of Hannukah and a visit with Santa Claus. A holiday meal caps off the event as we all prepare to celebrate the holidays in our own way.
HEALTH FAIR
The Health Fair is held twice each year (Spring and Fall) at the Birmingham Zoo. At the fair enrolled families have the opportunity to meet vendors who work in collaboration with our program and provide needed services in the Jefferson County area. In addition, children in our program have the opportunity to obtain many screenings necessary for participation in Early Head Start. The fair ends with a visit to the zoo for everyone.
EGG HUNT
Egg hunts are always fun! We provide the baskets and the eggs, and families provide the children and the excitement as we hunt for multi-colored eggs in Jefferson and St. Clair Counties.
FAMILY FUN DAY
The Parents in Partnership Association (PIPA) sponsors Family Fun Day in St. Clair and Jefferson Counties each spring. Held in local parks; games, crafts, good food and fun are enjoyed by families and staff. In St. Clair county, Fun Day activities are shared with The Children's Place, an affiliate of the Children's Advocacy Center.
TRANSITION CEREMONY
In July we celebrate the transitioning of our three year olds as they complete UABs Early Head Start Program. This event is held each year at Vulcan Park in Birmingham. After a ceremony honoring our children, families and staff are treated to a wonderful meal as well as photographs of the event.
