The Civitan-Sparks Center for Developmental and Learning Disorders is part of the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics under the Department of Pediatrics at UAB. Civitan-Sparks provides evaluation, consultation, primary care, and dental services for individuals with a broad range of physical, developmental, learning and/or behavioral challenges, in a family-centered and culturally-sensitive setting. These services involve an interdisciplinary team made up of the following specialties:
- Audiology
- Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics
- Nutrition
- Occupational Therapy
- Psychology
- Social Work
- Speech/Language Pathology
The Civitan-Sparks Clinics are an integral component of the Alabama University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. The Clinics are the home of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau's Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities training program. We provide clinical training for many disciplines such as dental, social work, audiology, psychology, occupational therapy, speech/language pathology, nutrition, pediatrics, nursing, family, self-advocacy and others.

Mission/Vision
We seek to provide assessment, consultation, primary care, and dental services to neurodiverse individuals and their families in an interdisciplinary setting. Additionally, we hope to train current and future providers in evidence-based care and advocacy and contribute to the body of research supporting these approaches to care.
We envision an inclusive world where all individuals with neurodevelopmental and health complexities as well as their families and loved ones are empowered to achieve their self-determined goals and to pursue opportunist that contribute to optimal quality of life.
