I am a geek, and my interest in technology has led me to explore the ways that I can use it in my teaching. In the past 2+ decades I've done everything from hand-coding web sites to using Drupal and WordPress as a platform for my online courses. I continue to explore new web- and app-based tools that I can adapt for the classroom. I'm interested in anything that can help students learn better.
I teach half of my courses online. I started when my children were small, because online classes gave me more flexibility. Now I continue to teach online because I enjoy it. Also, I know that many students need flexibility as they juggle work and family and college, and I'm glad that I can help them.
In my on-campus courses, I prefer discussion over lecture, and I’m always looking for ways to connect the literature we are reading to current events and popular culture.
At home, I read poetry and theology for pleasure, watch mysteries on Netflix, and work on my cooking skills.
